Frequently Asked Questions about Protective’s Bridges Internship Program

   1.    What is the Bridges Internship Program?

Bridges is Protective Life's internship program that provides an opportunity to accomplish various business tasks and projects, while providing challenging and meaningful work in their field of study.  As a Protective Life intern, you will be part of a structured program that will provide you with challenging work assignments, an overall understanding of the business, networking opportunities and an opportunity to develop life skills.  The program also allows Protective to assess talent for future full-time employment.

During the twelve-week program, interns will regularly meet with Protective Life leaders to review and discuss relevant business topics, usually over lunch.  Interns will also have the opportunity to network and socialize with other participants in the intership program.

 

   2.    What internship opportunities are available?

Internship opportunities vary year to year, based on business need; however, positions may be available in the following business areas:

  • Accounting
  • Actuarial
  • Corporate Finance
  • Investments/Mortgage Loans
  • Internal Audit
  • Marketing
  • Human Resources
  • MIS
  • Legal
  • Life & Annuity Division Operations
  • Sales & Marketing



   3.    How long does the internship program last?

The internship program lasts twelve weeks, beginning in mid-May and ending in mid-August.

 

   4.    What can I expect during the internship program?

The Bridges internship program is comprised of the following components and activities:

  • Manager and Intern Program Responsibilities
  • Business Overview Sessions with senior leaders across the company
  • Protective Mission and Values
  • Protective Leadership Model
  • Protective Code of Business Conduct
  • Business Book Review with a senior leader
  • Self Awareness Assessment
  • Mentoring Relationships
  • Networking/Social Events
  • Performance and Program Evaluations



   5.    What are the responsibilities for interns participating in the program?

Interns participating in the program are expected to:

  • Complete all tasks/projects as assigned
  • Participate in all development activities
  • Participate in networking activities
  • Evaluate/give feedback on the Bridges program



   6.    Will I be compensated for participating in the internship program?

Yes, interns will be compensated while participating in the internship program.

 

   7.    Is paid housing available for interns that relocate to participate in the program?

Paid housing may be available for interns that need to relocate to participate in the program.  Interns may have a roommate if housing is provided.  This will be handled on a case by case basis, based upon the office location and business need.

 

   8.    What other benefits are available for intership program participants?

Depending on the office  location, other benefits and amenities may be available, such as paid and/or covered parking, on-site fitness center, walking trails, an on-site nurse, and a health library.

 

   9.    Will I be guaranteed a job with Protective once the internship program ends?

While our goalis to provide employment opportunities for high performing interns, there is no guarantee that a job offer will be made upon completion of the internship program.  The availability of job opportunities will be based on business need.  Since 2007, Protective has hired 8 interns from the program into full-time positions upon graduation.

  11.    How do I apply to the Bridges Internship program?

The recruiting period for the Bridges Internship Program is September through December of each year, for the following summer's program.  Any internship job postings will only be listed online during this timeframe.

To apply to the intership program during this timeframe, please visit the "Search Jobs" section under the online Career Center.  You can search for internships by job title, category or office location.  Complete the on-line application, and submit your resume and a cover letter outlining your areas of interest.

After review of your application or resume, you will be contacted by a Human Resources Recruiter if we determine that you are a potential candidate for the internship program.
