The "Triple X" regulatory event in early 2000 threatened to lead to a general price increase for many types of life insurance. It also played havoc with Cherry Valle's wedding plans.

As Manager of West Coast's 25-person policy issue team, Cherry saw her group overwhelmed by the demand that occurred at the end of 1999 as consumers rushed to get ahead of the probable price increase. Policy applications rose from their normal level of about 180 a day to an average of 600. Rather than getting married as planned last summer, she and fiancé Gary Frye volunteered to postpone their nuptials.

Cherry, a 16-year West Coast veteran, threw herself and her team into 12-to-14-hour days, six days a week, making sure that the brokerage general agents and their customers got their policies at the lower rates. Said Gary: "Cherry's commitment to West Coast is no surprise to me! And a Thanksgiving wedding will suit us just fine."

The couple finally wedded on November 30 and has just bought a home in the San Francisco Bay area. Says Cherry of her exceptionally committed team: "We were able to meet the challenge and succeed -- that's what makes our team such a good one!"
