Protective operates through distinct business units that provide a wide array of insurance and investment products.

The Life Marketing Segment manufactures and sells life insurance products under the Protective and West Coast Life brands. This segment markets individual universal life, level premium term insurance, and traditional ordinary life insurance products to middle and upper income consumers through: independent personal producing general agents, brokerage general agents, stockbrokers, direct response, and bank-owned life insurance markets. 

The Acquisitions Segment acquires both in-force blocks of insurance policies from other insurance companies and entire insurance companies.

The Annuities Segment manufactures and distributes individual annuity products, through broker/dealers, financial planners, financial institutions (primarily banks) and Protective's independent agent force.

The Asset Protection Segment markets and distributes vehicle and recreational marine extended service contracts through a network of auto and marine dealers nationwide. The segment also markets single-premium credit life and disability insurance products through the same distribution channel as well as through some financial institutions. Products are marketed by employee field representatives and general agents representing Protective.

The Stable Value Products Segment sells Guaranteed Funding Agreements (GFAs) to special purpose entities. The segment also markets fixed and floating rate agreements directly to the trustees of municipal bond proceeds, institutional investors, bank trust departments, and money market funds. Additionally, the segment markets Guaranteed Investment Contracts (GICs) to
401(k) and other qualified retirement savings plans.

The Corporate Services Segment supports these business units through its Accounting, Actuarial, Human Resources, Legal, Information Technology, and Investment departments.
