Questions to Ask When Searching for the Best Life Insurance Policy for You

With so many types of life insurance how do you know which is the best life insurance for you? Unfortunately, because everyone has different needs, there really isn’t a one-size-fits-all answer. This article looks at key questions to ask when looking for the best life insurance policy to meet your needs.

Determining What Life Insurance Policy is Right for You

With so many types of life insurance policies, what is the best life insurance for you? Unfortunately, because everyone has different needs, there really isn't a one-size-fits-all answer. And because you have many different options such as the type of policy, how much to buy, and which life insurance company to go with, it can be easy to put off making a decision - especially if you're overwhelmed with your choices or don't fully understand them.

We've put together three key questions to ask yourself when considering the purchase of a life insurance policy.

1. Are my needs likely to change over time? How? Are you thinking about getting married or having children in the near future? Do you have plans for taking on a new mortgage? Thinking about these questions before you buy a policy can not only help you determine the best policy type, but how much coverage you should consider to meet your future needs.

2. Are there needs in my life that are unchanging that must be met? Do you have aging parents or a special needs child who depend on you for financial support and long-term care? It's important to discuss these types of long-term life insurance needs with an agent or company representative who can help you choose the right type of policy to meet these unchanging needs. For example, a permanent* policy such as whole or universal life might be a better choice over a term life insurance policy.

3. Am I buying enough coverage to meet my needs? There are many different ways in which to determine how much life insurance coverage you should buy to meet your needs. The most important first step is to look realistically at factors such as income replacement, debts and other financial obligations.
