Giving back to the communities in which we live and work

We take pride in being protectors — not just for our policyholders, but for our communities as well. Through the Protective Life Foundation and Protective, we focus our financial contributions and volunteer efforts into the areas where we live and work. By giving back to the communities we serve, we can create a better future for all.

Corporate giving

Supporting other organizations enables us to broaden our reach as protectors. Beyond community service, we also direct our dollars to outstanding organizations. In 2022, we gave $4.5 million to 192 nonprofit organizations.

Coming together to serve RMHC
For the first time, our three core sites and virtual workforce coordinated a joint week of service with Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC). From decorating banners and balloons to preparing meals and playing games, teammates gave families in their local communities hope during a difficult time.

Committing to our hometown

We’re here to be good neighbors, so we’re committed to supporting the Birmingham community and the people who call it home. Through these initiatives we help ensure a positive impact and economic benefits for all.

Committing to communities across our footprint

We want to make a difference in every community where we work, live and play. Across our core sites and virtual workforce, our teammates contribute in their local neighborhoods.

Beyond Birmingham
Our community outreach extends to all our core sites. In 2022, teammates in St. Louis supported children with Down Syndrome and participated in the St. Louis Arch’s card-writing campaign. In the Greater Cincinnati region, teammates contributed to food pantry volunteer projects, winter clothing and Christmas toy drives, and a record-breaking Thanksgiving Turkey Trot benefitting their local Society of St. Vincent de Paul.

Virtual teammates give back
Through the Ambassador Program and our Foundation’s support, virtual teammates identified local organizations, participated in volunteer opportunities and fundraised for nonprofits in their backyards. They organized a total of 8 community and volunteer events with 716 participants in 2022.

Fostering diversity, equity and inclusion in the community

Our commitment to DEI extends to how we serve others. As a result, last year, 42% of our corporate giving went directly to promoting equity in our communities. Here’s some of the work we’re doing through nonprofit support and our Foundation.
