Company transitions

On May 1, 2018, Lincoln Financial Group purchased Liberty Life Assurance Company of Boston. As a part of that transaction, Protective Life Insurance Company (PLICO) reinsured and became the administrator for substantially all of Liberty Life Assurance Company of Boston’s individual life and annuity policies issued outside the State of New York and Protective Life and Annuity Insurance Company (PLAIC) reinsured and became the administrator for all such policies issued in New York.

On September 1, 2019, Liberty Life Assurance Company of Boston changed its name to Lincoln Life Assurance Company of Boston. Effective October 1, 2021, Lincoln Life Assurance Company of Boston merged into its affiliate, The Lincoln National Life Insurance Company. The Lincoln National Life Insurance Company is the surviving entity of the merger.
